Englebright Lake – 1/5/12

Hoochies were hot on Englebright Lake Took the afternoon and paddled Englebright lake. Took my SUP out.  Sick – shorts and flip flops in January.  Temps was probably close to 70 with a light breeze.  I just got these Hoochies from Crystal Basin Tackle after getting a tip from someone last week. Here is the track I followed from my Garmin GPS.  I averaged about 2mph and got the fish about 1.7 mph.  It showed as a 3.85 mile paddle in 2:38. The result was 2 planter size trout.  The hoochies are shown by the fish they caught. There were several other boats out.  I saw a couple of...

Englebright Lake – 1/1/2012

A New Years Day SUP fishing trip to Englebright.  Great day with light wind and temps in the 60′.  I ditched the waders and wore shorts, booties and a T shirt.  Got 1 fish on a jet diver with a needlefish about 4′ behind.  The Jet Diver was at 30′ and hooked up on the point next to the dam.  I trolled for about 2 1/2 hours, focusing on the coves across from the boat ramp. Here is a link to the product manual. http://www.luhrjensen.com/downloads/tech-sheets/531JetDiver.pdf  I ran them straight out of the box, but am going to try the slider method with 2 baits next. ...

Englebright Lake – 12/24/11

I fished Englebright Christmas Eve with my daughter.  Beautiful day with the temps in the high 50′s and little breeze.  Fishing was a little slower than last week.  The only difference that I can think of was the lack of chop on the water.  We started slow, with only one bite in the first hour.  As it got a little later, we had some success where the sun was off the water.  We got the fist fish on a gold phoebe lure and the second on a rainbow rapalla. Most of the time was spent trolling the rows of the houseboats.  We spent about 2 hours on the lake and had a great time.

Back to Englebright – 12/20/11

I read in Dennis Pierce’s Outdoor column in The Union  that the best bet for lake trout was Englebright.  He steered me there last week and it payed off both times.I had about 2 hours to fish, so I trolled the houseboats.  I hooked, caught or landed about 12 fish.  All were small planters, but still fun.  The top water hits were mostly on a gold Phoebe lure.  I used a 2 oz inline weight to get deeper and fished a silver Kastmaster about 4′ behind it.  That was productive as well.  It was challenging to reel them in, especially the double hookup I got, and stay out of the...

Englebright Lake – 12/14/2011

I fished Englebright Lake yesterday after reading that it was planted recently.  Got a good tip that the fish were located around the houseboats.  I trolled through a line of the houseboats and marked a ton of fish.  Of course I moved on to see what else was around.  I hooked a 12″ rainbow on a Phoebe Lure off a point. I trolled back across the dam and back to the house boats.  I hooked another 12″ rainbow on the same lure as soon as I got into the first row.  Got another big hit that I lost right after that. The moral of the story is to listen to the tips.  I fished...
